Senior women leave BP in first management shakeup since Looney misconduct claims

Two senior female executives are leaving BP in the first management shakeup since Bernard Looney quit after he was found to have misled the board over a string of workplace affairs. Leigh-Ann Russell, chief technology officer, is leaving after 18 years with the company, while Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, is leaving after just two years heading up BP’s gas and low carbon division. They are both being replaced by men, marking a reversal from 2022 when BP was praised for becoming the first oil major to have more women than men in its top executive team. Writing about the appointments in a LinkedIn post in December 2022, former boss Looney said BP had hit a significant milestone and “flipped the gender balance in its leadership team”. It is the first major shake-up under Murray Auchincloss, who took over from Mr Looney as chief executive in September.
